Melbourne, Australia MacKillop Family Services Pty Full time

Overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for an Educational Specialist looking for a fulfilling teaching role in a supportive team environment.

At MacKillop Education, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive—especially those who are vulnerable, at risk, or disengaged from school. Our mission is clear: to ensure equity and access to education for all young people, no matter their circumstances. We're looking for someone experienced in supporting young people living in out-of-home care to engage in learning, pathways or community programs.

Our programs ensure that learning is a positive experience that offers not only academic success but also nurtures the young people’s social and emotional wellbeing. We do this by adopting a holistic, trauma-informed model of practice that promotes safety, positive relationships, and creates a supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities

This isn't your average classroom teachers' position; this model of education means that no two days will be the same and your classroom will be dynamic and held at variable locations in the Eastern region. The position provides you with the opportunity to deliver one-on-one education and provide specialist education support, advocacy, school-based and targeted learning interventions, outreach, tutoring, enrolment support, and access to student brokerage. By adopting a more individualised, flexible approach to learning, we support Young People to achieve their learning goals, transition back to mainstream, or access vocational training or further education.

As an ESCC Learning Specialist you'll need to create and implement customised educational programs that address each Young Person/'s unique needs, which includes providing focused support in both numeracy and literacy to assist them to achieve their full potential.

In this position, you/'ll receive support from an experienced Team Leader who will guide you, as well as from a dedicated team of professionals. The Team Leader will help you navigate the role, providing advice and assistance when needed, while the wider team will offer collaborative support and share their expertise to ensure you have the resources required to succeed.

This position is a chance for you to use your skills and experience to help re-engage and ultimately improving Children and Young People life outcomes through education.

- Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated teaching experience
- Tertiary Qualification in Education
- Demonstrated experience in working with Children and Young People who may have experienced trauma and present with diverse needs.
- Demonstrated professional experience, training and skills in the provision of supportive and empowering services available for young people
- Understand and work within Child Safety Standards and guidelines

Offer

- 7 weeks paid leave, 1 week at each Term 1,2, & 3 school holidays + 4 weeks end of year break.
- Additional leave entitlements in line with the Catholic Education Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2022.
- Flexible work arrangements.
- Salary packaging up to $18,500 (helps increase your take home pay).
