Overview
Managing Lawyer – Litigation | Public Trustee of Queensland
$145,607 – $153,869 + super (12.75%) | Permanent | Brisbane CBD | Hybrid + Flex Time
Step away from billables. Step into impact.
The Public Trustee of Queensland is seeking an experienced litigation lawyer (5+ years PAE) to lead a small team delivering high-quality legal advice and litigation services that make a real difference in the lives of Queenslanders. This is a genuine in-house transition where you can apply your advocacy and strategic thinking to a diverse portfolio of matters - guiding a team, advising stakeholders, and influencing outcomes at an organisational level. You’ll still engage in complex legal problem-solving, but in an environment that values judgement, leadership, and public impact over billable hours.
Why you’ll love this role
- Variety of matters – From complex probate and succession disputes to trust, equity, property, and elder-law issues. No two days are the same.
- Lead and mentor – Supervise and develop junior lawyers and paralegals within a collaborative, collegiate legal team.
- True flexibility – 36.25-hour weeks, flex-time arrangements, and hybrid work options.
- Meaningful work – Provide advice that directly impacts vulnerable Queenslanders while maintaining professional independence and integrity.
- Attractive public-sector benefits – Excellent leave provisions, 12.75% super, job security, and structured career pathways.
- Supportive culture – Work with experienced senior lawyers who value collaboration, respect, and work-life balance.
About you
You’re an admitted solicitor with:
- Minimum 5 years PAE in litigation, dispute resolution or related areas (succession, equity, property or elder law)
- Experience managing or mentoring junior lawyers or paralegals
- Strong written and oral advocacy skills and the ability to handle complex, sensitive matters with professionalism and empathy
- Eligibility for a current practising certificate in Queensland

Location: Brisbane CBD; Type: Permanent, Full-time (flexible options available); Salary: $145,607 – $153,869 + super (up to 12.75%)
