Position Information

Glenwood Public School is a small, culturally diverse school located in South Western Sydney, serving approximately 219 students. The student body reflects more than 20 nationalities, with 7.7% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and 61% coming from households where a language other than English is spoken.

The school currently offers nine mainstream classes, supported by a dedicated team of both early and experienced teachers. Staff are committed to employing student‑centred, evidence‑based teaching approaches that promote academic growth and improve learning outcomes. In 2026, Glenwood Public School will introduce three special education Autism support classes, broadening the capacity to support the diverse learning needs of students.

The school's leadership team comprises a Principal, an above‑establishment Deputy Principal, an Assistant Principal specialising in Curriculum and Instruction, and an Assistant Principal.

Glenwood Public School benefits from a growing Parents and Citizens Federation, which has expanded over the past three years. This committed group serves as a strong voice and active partner for the broader community, consistently demonstrating robust support for the school.

Specific Selection Criteria

1. In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with autism, complex learning and behavioural needs within a support class, with demonstrated capacity to effectively manage the dual role of Assistant Principal and exemplary special education teacher.

2. Ability to lead the successful establishment and management of a new inclusive education hub, including strategic planning, stakeholder collaboration, and embedding inclusive practices that support diverse student needs. Capacity to manage resources, drive change, and evaluate the hub’s impact to ensure positive educational outcomes.

3. Evidence of a highly visible, approachable, and collaborative leader with a capacity to build & maintain positive, inclusive, trusting relationships & partnerships with students, families, staff, external agencies & the wider community.

4. Demonstrated ability to provide specialist advice and professional support to a range of school‑based personnel, including Learning and Support Teachers, and to develop and successfully implement and review adjusted educational programs for students with additional learning and support needs.

General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with the capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning, and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and student welfare, with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff, and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
