Position Information
Grafton High School is a large comprehensive secondary school of over 750 students, located on the traditional lands of the Bundjalung people on the North Coast of NSW. The school contains a support unit with 8 classes and is partially selective, with a selective class in each of Years 7 to 10. The school is the oldest public high school on the North Coast and has a long-standing reputation for academic, cultural and sporting achievement. 18% of students identify as having an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background. All students participate in a wide range of cultural recognition and learning experiences focusing on local Bundjalung culture, language and dance.
The school/'s permanent staffing entitlement in 2025 is 67.2 teaching staff and 18 non-teaching staff. The school employs a number of additional teaching and non-teaching staff from school base and equity funding; including a Business Manager, Transition Adviser and Head Teacher Administration. Our executive staff is stable. Our teachers are diverse in both skills and experience, with approximately 20% in their early career. The Head Teacher Welfare leads a team consisting of year advisors, assistant year advisers, student support officer, student wellbeing office and school counsellors.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the wellbeing team to develop and deliver whole-school wellbeing programs that cater to diverse student needs.
- Design, implement and evaluate evidence-based, data-driven wellbeing initiatives aligned with whole-school improvement and student outcomes.
- Build authentic connections with community providers and external agencies supporting student wellbeing and development.
Qualifications and Selection Criteria
- Specific Selection Criteria: Proven capacity to lead the wellbeing team strategically and collaboratively; design and evaluate evidence-based wellbeing programs; build community partnerships.
- General Selection Criteria: Successful teaching experience, knowledge of curriculum and student welfare, educational leadership, communication and interpersonal skills, resource planning, and commitment to Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
