The Senior Technical Specialist – IP is responsible for designing and implementing IP network solutions that support Optus’ mobile core systems, voice platforms, and associated services. This role involves creating detailed designs aligned with architecture standards, configuring automation systems, and ensuring seamless integration across on-prem and hybrid cloud environments. The position requires strong technical expertise in routing, switching, and data centre networking, combined with hands‑on experience in multi‑vendor environments and automation tools.
Your day to day will consist of
- Design IP connectivity solutions for Telco platforms and services in line with architecture and design templates.
- Develop detailed low‑level designs, documentation, and configuration for production deployment.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to clarify requirements and resolve design issues.
- Configure and maintain automation tools (e.g., Ansible, NSO) for network implementation.
- Support onboarding of new routers, switches, and network elements into the Telco IP network.
- Participate in solution reviews and provide technical guidance during critical operational issues.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- Degree in Telecommunications Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years in IP network design for large‑scale Telco or ISP environments, plus experience in high‑level solution architecture.
- Strong knowledge of IP protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, MPLS, VXLAN/EVPN) and data centre technologies (VXLAN, Cisco ACI).
- Hands‑on experience configuring Cisco, Juniper, or Nokia devices in production environments.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible and NSO for network configuration.
- Understanding of network segmentation, MPLS VPN routing, and security best practices.
- Experience designing solutions for hybrid cloud and on‑prem environments.
- Excellent documentation skills and ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Desirable: Vendor certifications (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia), Python scripting, SRv6 knowledge.
The good stuff…. | What’s in it for you?
- Competitive remuneration and employee discounts. Make life easier (and more affordable) with $80 monthly credit and 25% off Optus products and unique shopping discounts with our retail partners.
- Flexible working arrangements with opportunities to work three days in the office, two days remote or home.
- Vibrant and collaborative office campus that includes cafes, convenience store, chill out zones, GP, post office, gym and on‑site childcare centre.
- Competitive leave policies, including additional 'Connected’ days to focus on culture, family, health, community, or whatever’s important to you.
- We support growing families with inclusive, carer‑neutral paid Parental Leave of up to 16 weeks.
- Direct your own development and build future‑ready skills with Optus U’s industry‑focused micro‑credentials, developed with La Trobe and Macquarie Universities.
- Build meaningful connections through employee‑led networks and diversity initiatives including Culture Connect, Elevate Women, Disability Network and Express Yourself (LGBTQIA+).
- Put your wellbeing first with free access to counselling and support services, 24/7 — in‑person, by phone, SMS, or video.
