Department: Internal Audit - Corporate Centre
Division: Internal Audit
Location: Melbourne
About Us
At ANZ, we're shaping a world where people and communities thrive, driven by a common goal: to improve the financial wellbeing and sustainability of our millions of customers.
About the Role
Are you passionate about making a real impact through audit and assurance? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement are valued? If so, we are looking for talented individuals like you to join our team
Internal Audit (IA) serves as the independent third line in ANZ’s three lines of defence (3LOD) governance model. Our IA function is made up of multiple teams that work together to help the bank move at pace safely, leveraging our enterprise-wide perspective and independence.
We currently have both a fixed term and permanent opportunity available within Internal Audit’s Corporate Centre Division.
These opportunities are key to delivering internal audit reviews aligned with the annual audit plan, focusing on risk assessment, control evaluation, and assurance across the bank:
- Audit Managers (12-month fixed term) execute audit engagements of medium complexity, conduct fieldwork and research, and support senior leaders with insights. They help assess risk profiles and anticipate changes in the control environment.
- Senior Audit Managers (permanent) lead more complex audits, integrating behavioural analysis with traditional audit methods. They specialise in Treasury (including liquidity and funding, capital adequacy, securitization) and credit risk reviews, collaborate with Group Credit Assurance (GCA), and ensure audits remain responsive to regulatory and strategic developments.
Both roles contribute to strengthening risk management and supporting the bank’s safe, effective, and forward-looking operations.
Role Location: 833 Collins Street, Docklands VIC 3008
Work Hours: Full time, 40 hrs/week
What will your day look like?
As the Audit Manager or Senior Audit Manager, you will be accountable for:
Audit Execution & Methodology
- Managing and executing audits in line with Internal Audit (IA) methodology and IIA standards.
- Conducting walkthroughs, data analysis, and behavioural root cause assessments.
- Delivering high-quality audit reports with clear, pragmatic recommendations.
- Ensuring audits are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with ANZ’s risk environment.
Risk & Business Insight
- Building a deep understanding of business units, risk culture, and treasury risk areas.
- Providing behavioural risk expertise and thought leadership.
- Influencing senior stakeholders through effective communication and engagement.
- Ensuring assurance activities are responsive to internal and external changes.
- Contributing annual audit planning and resource allocation.
- Ensuring realistic budgeting and productive use of resources.
- Optimising scope without compromising assurance quality.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Developing strong relationships with business, Risk & Compliance, and Group Treasury.
- Ensuring audit findings are understood, accepted, and lead to sustainable improvements.
- Acting as a trusted advisor and integrated business partner.
Process Improvement
- Leading and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across IA.
- Innovating assurance approaches and supporting remediation activities.
- Sharing knowledge and driving customer-centric audit practices.
- Leading and coaching audit teams effectively.
- Supporting team development, performance management, and collaboration.
- Promoting a culture of feedback, learning, and capability building within IA.
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
- Extensive audit/risk experience in banking, with expertise in managing complex audits across geographies and business areas.
- Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as Psychology, Behavioral Science, Accounting, or Audit; CPA/CA or postgraduate credentials preferred.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with a proven ability to build relationships and manage conflict at senior levels.
- Exceptional communication skills, including expert-level report writing, listening, and interpreting capabilities.
- Leadership and people development experience, including managing teams, setting performance expectations, and coaching.
- Technical proficiency in operational and/or technology audits, with exposure to data analytics, agile practices, and digital environments.
- Commercial acumen and innovation mindset, with a track record of delivering high-quality work and driving change in complex environments.
