Job Description
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Start your career as a new Psychologist with a Professional Psychology internship in the Northern Territory, an exciting mix of tropical and desert landscapes, with world leading national parks and diverse wildlife. Joining our NT team presents an opportunity to experience parts of Australia that many people never see, whilst at the same time, doing work that is impactful and interesting. Relocation package available for the successful candidate looking to move interstate for the position.
The work for intern psychologists in Darwin is varied and provides a strong base in working with people with a range of underlying developmental and mental health related issues. Our Darwin team complete a range of assessments with diverse client populations including:
- Early childhood developmental assessment
- FASD assessment
- ASD assessment
- Psychosocial assessment
- Behavioural assessment
- Parenting capacity assessment (often inclusive of mental health assessment)
- Dementia assessment
- Forensic assessment
The use of assessments relating to learning difficulties, executive functioning, depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. are also utilised as appropriate.
Psychological intervention, therapy and behaviour support services are provided using a diverse range of modalities inclusive of individual, family based and service system interventions.
Our client groups are diverse, and while largely funded through NDIS and Territory Families, are inclusive of a wide range of presentations stemming from developmental trauma, developmental disability, neuro developmental disorders, traumatic brain injury, and mental health issues.
While our office base and primary work is in Darwin, we also offer a range of opportunities to work regionally (e.g. Katherine, Alice Springs) and within remote Indigenous communities.
Desired Skills and Experience
ABOUT YOU:
- Masters of Professional Psychology and eligibility for AHPRA registration;
- Interest in working with people with intellectual disabilities, mental health issues and / or experiences of trauma who have complex needs;
- Interest in providing clinical and / or behaviour assessment, intervention and support in the disability, out-of-home care and / or other relevant sectors.
Due to the nature of our business, it is required that our staff have:
- a current and valid Driver’s Licence;
- a current and valid Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening, or the ability to attain these checks.

- Professional Psychology internship program inclusive of: 1) Support to complete the AHPRA registration process inclusive of a supervision plan that meets the requirements; 2) Primary and secondary supervision from work place supervisors to meet (and generally exceed) the requirements for registration; 3) Monthly topic-based group supervision with terms from our national program and facilitators from across our senior team; 4) Support to complete case studies, psychology exam and other aspects of the AHPRA requirements.
