The Role
MQ Health is seeking a Senior Resident Medical Officer (PGY3) to join our Doctors in Training Program to provide clinical services and participate in the teaching and research environment of MQ Health.
The program has potential rotations, with an emphasis on the unique opportunity to develop surgical and practical skills in Orthopaedics or Neurosurgery.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Be mentored and work alongside experienced clinicians in a diverse spectrum of Medical and Surgical specialities
- Collaborate with groups across MQ Health to participate in research projects
- Be exposed to a wide range of clinical conditions, and treatment for these, including advanced procedural interventions
- Attend theatre and further develop surgical skills with dedicated in-house training facilities
- Be educated and supported by advanced subspecialty registrars and fellows
- Supervise and train students and other Doctors in Training
- Contribute to educational activities with MQ Health
- Participate in the hospital's Code Blue [medical emergency] response
Every effort will be made to accommodate candidate rotation preferences – taking into consideration current training requirements, previous experience and demands of particular rotations. However, this is not a guarantee as it is dependent on the successful candidates.
There will be an expectation of working in the management of acutely deteriorating patients within the hospital Code Blue team. The trainee will also be encouraged to attend general JMO teaching sessions and to be involved in the MD programme teaching.

Key Accountabilities include (Not limited to):
- Participate in and fulfil the duties and responsibilities as set out in the each of the relevant HETI term descriptions.
- Formulate a management plan, order appropriate investigations in consultation with supervisors.
- Communication of the patient's assessment and management plan with the medical staff and other members of the team providing care to the patient.
- Liaise and work effectively with allied health professionals involved in patient care including the broader care team.
- Comply with MQ Health policies and procedures and the MUH By-laws.
- Participate in Discipline/Program Morbidity and Mortality meetings and other meetings deemed compulsory by supervisor(s) or the Director of Medical Services.
- Participate in Discipline, Program, Hospital and MQ Health quality assurance and risk management projects.
- Ensure compliance with the standards contained within the ACSQHC National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards for accreditation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary clinical supervision, training and education in patient care environments.
- If required, present at and represent MQ Health at relevant internal and external conferences, grand rounds, and similar sessions in support of advancing the academic mission of MQ Health.
- In partnership with clinical supervisor(s) develop and implement a professional development, education and training plan.

- ** You MUST have an active (or eligible to be active) AHPRA General Medical Registration. This is essential in order to be considered for this role and an Accredited Practitioner of Macquarie University Hospital. Please upload AHPRA Certificate when applying**

- Venipuncture certificate
To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter:
- AHPRA General Medical Registration as a medical practitioner in Australia
- MBBS or equivalent qualification and registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.
- Successful completion of Internship and demonstrated understanding of the patient's perspective and ability to communicate key information to the patient and carers
- Demonstrated experience as a doctor in basic procedural techniques such as intravenous cannulation and venesection.
- Demonstrated interest and aptitude for one or more of the following activities: supervision of students; or delivery of educational activities; or research.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a wide range of stakeholders including patients and other health professionals.
- A strong commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to clinical care and ability to work as part of a team.
- Completion of ALS2 desirable or willingness to undertake same
- ALS2 training to enable participation the Code Blue (Emergency response)
