Dubbo Health Service is seeking a professional to jointheir Respiratory Laboratory Team in a permanent full-time role.
You’ll work alongside an experienced Senior Respiratory Scientist, conducting awide range of diagnostic investigations, including the measurement of lungfunction, gas exchange, bronchial provocation, and exercise performance.

Salary: $73,440 -$104,751 + super + salary packaging

The Respiratory Scientist is responsible for conducting a comprehensive range of respiratory investigationsappropriate to the diagnosis and management of patients with respiratory disease under the direction of a RespiratoryPhysician or Senior Hospital Scientist.
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide a comprehensive service for the diagnosis and assessment of patients with respiratory diseaseby performing established scientific procedures for the measurement of lung function, gas exchange,bronchial provocation, and exercise performance.
- Produce reliable results, including the analysis, calculation, interpretation, and presentation of results tosupport high-quality care of people accessing the service.
- Actively participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of relevant policies, procedures,and guidelines, including Work Health and Safety (WHS), infection control, risk management, Code of Conduct, and patient confidentiality.
- Perform calibration and preparation of equipment used in performing respiratory function tests and reportirregularities accordingly to support accurate and consistent results and promote service continuity.
- Participate in National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Hospital Accreditation, TSANZ(Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand) laboratory accreditation and continual qualityimprovement processes to support the maintenance of high service standards.
- Maintain competency in the use of respiratory laboratory equipment and develop capability with relevantnew and emerging technology.
- Liaise with Respiratory Physicians and administration staff to ensure appropriate workflow through thelaboratory, ensuring efficient management of patients, conduction of scientific procedures andmaintenance of equipment.
- Participate in performance and capability development processes to contribute to own professionalgrowth and service outcomes.
- Demonstrate professional knowledge and competence by obtaining accreditation as a CertifiedRespiratory Function Scientist by the Australian and New Zealand Society of Respiratory Science orequivalent, within 24 months of employment, if not already held.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from a recognised University with at least three years full time study in a relevantscientific discipline (respiratory science, physiology, biomedical science or equivalent).
- Demonstrated foundational understanding of respiratory and pulmonary function, including normal andabnormal physiology, anatomy, and principles of spirometry, lung volumes and gas transfer.
- Demonstrated previous exposure to pulmonary function testing and an understanding of Thoracic Societyof Australia and New Zealand (TSANZ) pulmonary function testing standards and guidelines, and theimportance of compliance with these protocols.
- Demonstrated effective written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectivelycommunicate with a diverse range of people.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or within a team environment, and the ability to effectivelyprioritise and organise own workload.
- Demonstrated commitment to the application of evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
- Computer skills including word processing, presentations, spreadsheet applications and clinicalinformation systems.
- Current licence to drive within NSW and a willingness to travel for work purposes.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: $73,441 - $104,752 per annum (+ superannuation + salary packaging options) + Up to $10,000 in Western NSW LHD Incentives under the Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme
