Overview

CAREER OPPORTUNITY:

CASUAL OFFICE, CLERICAL, TECHNICAL (OCT)

The UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team in a Casual OCT (Office, Clerical, and Technical) role. This opening is specifically for a position on our OCT Supply list. In this role, you will provide coverage for a variety of administrative positions in offices of the Board, elementary and secondary schools. OCT Casual Supply staff replace absent administrative/secretarial staff on an as needed basis or for short-term assignments.

Location: All geographical areas of the Board including North Wellington, Centre Wellington, East Wellington, Guelph, Orangeville, Dufferin County and Shelburne. Supply OCT staff may select specified areas in which they would like to work.

Hours of work: There is no guaranteed hours per week as this is a casual position; a casual employee with full availability can work up to 35 hours per week depending on need.

Hourly Rate: The rate of pay varies depending on the position being covered; minimum rate is $23.07 per hour, plus applicable vacation pay, in accordance with the Employment Standards Act; wage rate effective September 1, 2025.

Board Information: Casual; 10 month and 12-month position; Office, Clerical and Technical (OCT) Union

Responsibilities

- Provide excellent customer service.
- Reception duties.
- Perform data entry tasks including updating and maintaining databases.
- Basic accounting; assistance with maintaining budget records.
- Processing student attendance information.
- Use of a variety of computer software (Edsembli, Microsoft Office, Google, etc.).
- Provide administrative support.
- Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent education and experience deemed equivalent by the Board is a requirement.
- 1-3 years of experience working in an office environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to function effectively with students, staff, parents, and members of the public.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with demanding situations.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of student information.
- Flexibility, patience, and the ability to work closely with the administration.
- Previous bookkeeping and budget experience is considered an asset.
- Familiarity with SDS, SchoolCash Online and Edsembli database is an asset.
- First aid certification is an asset.
- Ability to speak French is an asset.
- Preference will be given to applicants with prior secretarial experience in an educational setting.
- Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools.
