Accountant

- 12 month contract | Full Time | 9 day fortnight
- This is a Parental Leave relief role, and it is anticipated appointment will be until December 2026.
- 72.5 hour fortnight (RDO included)
- Hybrid, flexible working environment, including some work from home days.
- Location: Strathpine, with on site parking and close to train station

Join City of Moreton Bay as an Accountant and help shape and enhance our communities for today and tomorrow.

This role will be specific to the financial accounting aspect of Council’s Financial Services Department.

Specifically responsibilities and duties will include;

- Assist in the planning and delivery of council’s annual financial statements, annual report, and other periodic financial reports, including the development of appropriate notes and work papers.

- Daily, weekly and monthly general ledger reconciliations, workpapers and journals.

- Assist in the preparation and ensure compliance for council taxation matters, including GST, FBT, and TPAR returns.

- Assist in the provision of treasury services.

- Assist in month end financial reporting to Council.

- Ensure accounting activities are in accordance with accounting practices, standards, and legislation to ensure departmental outcomes are achieved.

- Ensure adequate controls and processes are in place within council to reduce the risk of financial non-compliance and the integrity of the data recorded in council’s financial systems.

What we’re looking for:

We are looking for someone who has extensive knowledge and application of accounting practice, procedures, standards, and legislation, and who holds a Degree in Accounting and/or Commerce or equivalent and has been in a similar role within a large organisation.

You will have experience providing financial advice to key stakeholders with strong people and relationship management skills to effectively communicate and engage to all levels of the business.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to undertake accounting activities with efficiency and accuracy.

- Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on providing quality customer service.

- Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
