Program Coordinator - Community Leader - The Arts
Branch: Northam Senior High School
Division: Independent Public School - Wheatbelt Education Region
Salary: Level 3, $137,428 - $150,385 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2023)
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026

Northam Senior High School (SHS) stands on the bank of the Avon River and has a proud and rich history of providing a comprehensive curriculum to students in Years 7‑12 from the Northam and surrounding Wheatbelt districts. With over 650 students, we are the largest school in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia.

In our vision of ‘A Community United’, we work in partnership with students, staff, parents/carers and the community to establish positive and productive relationships. Northam SHS is focused on embedding trauma‑informed and restorative practices, where our systems are designed to prioritise student belonging, voice and mastery in a strengths‑based model.

The Role

As the Program Coordinator – Community Leader, you will work collaboratively with the Principal and members of the Senior Leadership team to provide educational leadership within the school and the wider community. You will develop and promote the school’s vision for academic and artistic excellence, encouraging staff, volunteers, and community members to share ownership of the school’s goals and creative direction.

Ideally you will build positive relationships between students, staff, parents and the local community, leading a Learning Community that is proactive, innovative and supportive, ensuring successful learning outcomes for both students and teachers. Your understanding of multi‑tiered systems of support, intervention strategies across academic, engagement and wellbeing domains, and your ability to apply this knowledge to support whole‑child teaching, learning and wellbeing will be essential.

As an instructional leader you should provide direction and purpose to staff, build and sustain team cohesion and capacity through a focus on quality teaching, and promote an environment of positive, high‑quality academic learning experiences for all students. You will also maintain a professional strengths‑based culture where staff feel supported to share effective practices.

In addition to the community leadership, you will lead a curriculum domain: the Visual and Performing Arts programs, oversee the operations of the performing arts theatre, and line‑manage specialist staff to coordinate, deliver and promote high‑quality arts education and community engagement initiatives.
