About This Opportunity

Engage as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within an established research group, contributing toward projects externally funded by Vicebio. Projects include experimental work contributing to clinical trials of vaccines against respiratory pathogens. Further information about Vicebio can be found here . You will work, alongside researchers at AIBN and the Queensland Brain Institute's Flow Cytometry Core facilities, toward the aim of evaluating immune cell reactivity in human blood samples against vaccine antigens. Applicants should have several years' experience in the use, operation, and troubleshooting of flow cytometers and cell sorters, and/or a willingness to be trained in these techniques. You should also have experience in handling and processing of human blood, and sample labelling for flow cytometric analysis.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Research: Plan and conduct laboratory work within an established research group and larger consortium; conduct high quality experiments, keep meticulous records, handle and prepare human blood for flow cytometry analysis; set-up and perform quality control of flow cytometers; data analysis, presentation and preparation of manuscripts for publication, other research-specific duties as required.

- Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to supervision of honours and higher degree by research students; supervise and manage research support staff, including support for performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts.

- Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.

About You

- PhD in microbiology, immunology, molecular biology or related field

- Experience with flow cytometry and cell sorting

- Experience in blood preparation

- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

- Ability to take instructions and receive feedback in a fast paced and high pressure environment.

- Well organised with thorough attention to detail in the recording of research methods and results
