Payroll Officer and Payroll Support Officer
Location: Cockburn
Agency: Department of Fire & Emergency Services
Unit / Division: Corporate Services – Payroll Services
Working Arrangement: Fixed Term – Full Time or Part Time (commencing as soon as possible until 30 June 2026, with possibility of extensions and/or permanency).
Appointment Levels: Level 2 or Level 3, depending on experience.

Join Our Team – Payroll Officer (Level 2 or Level 3)
We’re offering an exciting opportunity to join our payroll team. The position will be appointed at Level 2 or Level 3, depending on the experience and capability of the successful applicant.
Level 2 – Payroll Support Officer
In this role, you’ll assist with payroll processing, including entitlements, leave, and staff movements. You’ll also provide advice on payroll matters and support the team in delivering accurate and timely services.
Level 3 – Payroll Officer
This role involves delivering high‑volume, accurate payroll services and providing advice to employees and managers. You’ll be responsible for processing salaries, wages, and allowances in line with relevant legislation and industrial instruments.
What We’re Looking For
- Payroll experience aligned to the relevant JDF.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Excellent customer service skills.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information
DFES is an emergency services organisation and all employees may be required to work or travel outside of normal business hours to assist with emergencies.

Eligibility To Apply
You must be an Australian Citizen or hold permanent residency to be considered for permanent appointments, or hold a working visa covering the term of the contract (proof must be provided with your application) to be eligible for this position.
National Police Certificate
A condition of employment for new employees of DFES is that a current National Police Certificate (less than 3 months old) is provided prior to commencement.
Choice of Super
DFES does not offer choice of super for permanent appointments. Those appointed permanently have the following two options:
- Remain with their existing GESB Superannuation account.
- Join the Fire and Emergency Services Superannuation Fund (click here for more information).
Those appointed on a fixed‑term contract have a choice of super, but if converted to permanent, employees will need to choose one of the two options above.
