This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route. Sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds, and any role-specific criteria.
This role is divided into review and treatment. Two days are allocated for review and three days to treatment. This arrangement is contingent upon service requirement, and there is a possibility of an increase in the number of days spent in review with additional review sites being added. This is a rotational post, and the post holder will be required to travel to both Brighton and Eastbourne. The working hours are from 8 AM to 7 PM, with on-call duties and shifts. The timings may be adjusted based on service requirements.
The post holder requires advanced clinical knowledge of radiotherapy procedures, tissue tolerances, and physiological reactions due to radiation exposure.
The post holder provides professional radiotherapy services within all the Sussex Cancer Centre locations covering CT, on-call, calculating and treatment of cancer patients as well as liaising effectively with the multidisciplinary team.
Our sites are equipped with state-of-the-art technology including Elekta Versa HD Linacs, Tomotherapy units, and Philips Widebore CT scanners. We also offer advanced HDR brachytherapy services.
This role includes a £2,000 Recruitment & Retention Premium.
Main duties of the job
- To support patients through on-treatment reviews, by providing information and advice to patient, carers and staff on all aspect of cancer, its treatment and the support services available.
- To anticipate, identify and actively manage treatment related side effects
- Be recognised and accessible as having specialist knowledge in the management of radiotherapy toxicities for prostate and bladder, promoting best evidenced based practice
- Attend Oncology Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meetings as appropriate
- Ensure robust communication is in place for patients transferring from one care setting to another
- Communication will be face to face, telephone, written and electronic.
- Ensure that clinical information relating to each patient encounter undertaken within the radiotherapy department, via telephone or externally is accurately and fully recorded and reported
- Use advanced level communication skills to facilitate good working relationships with patients, carers and members of the MDT and develop systems that support prompt access for patients to appropriate members of the health care team.

- Give continuing expert advice to patients at the start, during and completion of their treatment regarding side effects of radiotherapy.
Job responsibilities
- Use electronic imager to confirm patient positioning at start of radiotherapy course and during treatment as part of QA protocol.
- Calculate accuracy of patient position and use clinical judgement to adjust positioning, taking into account contour of patients, progression and regression of tumour.
- In case of discrepancies and inability to treat patient refer for changes in calculation or refer back to CT/planning for re-planning.
- To ensure that prior to each treatment, provide expert assessment to whether each patient is fit for treatment, and take appropriate action if unfit for treatment by referral to a clinician.
- Making judgements when speciality support is required by other disciplines due to the nature of the patients problems and referral on to dieticians and Macmillan team.
- Arrange for blood / urine sampling and analyse results before treatment, Responsible for continuing or suspending patients treatment, depending on result. Inform patient of highly sensitive result and refer to clinician if treatment is suspended.
Person Specification
- DCR[T] or BSc [ Hons] in Therapeutic Radiography.
- HCPC registered
- Must have a minimum of 18 months clinical experience
- Able to manipulate and operate very large, expensive and complex Linear Accelerators to pinpoint accuracy on Patient radiotherapy treatment targets of less than 1 mm
- Able to cope with a workload of distressed cancer patients and relatives ; terminally ill patients and patients who have co - morbidity
- Have evidence of CPD
- Relevant short specialist courses in Radiotherapy
