Urgent Mechanical Fitters

Join our team supporting a four-year rolling stock upgrade program across the Sydney Trains Tangara fleet, with work based at Auburn and Flemington site locations.
We are seeking Mechanical Maintenance Technicians to perform maintenance, modifications, and upgrades on passenger rolling stock to ensure safety, reliability, and compliance with rail industry standards. This long-term opportunity is ideal for experienced tradespeople who take pride in delivering quality, hands‑on work in a collaborative team environment.
Role Overview
- Undertake mechanical maintenance and upgrade activities on the Tangara fleet, ensuring systems and components meet current specifications and standards.
- Work safely within rail depots and confined spaces, adhering to all site and industry safety procedures.
- Participate in manual handling and heavy lifting tasks when required.
- Maintain a strong commitment to zero harm, upholding all safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
- Operate in a drug‑ and alcohol‑free workplace.
Key Requirements
- Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical (or equivalent trade qualification).
- Current Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card, or willingness to obtain (including CAT‑3 medical and drug & alcohol screening).
- Excellent attention to detail with a focus on safety, quality, and reliability.
- Previous experience in rail, rolling stock, or heavy industry is highly regarded but not essential.
- Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently when required.
- Full Australian working rights.
- Basic hand tools required (specialised tooling provided).
