James Cropper Advanced Materials is seeking a Customer Innovation Scientist to lead the charge in developing tailored solutions for our customers, driving innovation that fuels business growth. Based in Launceston, this permanent role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of advanced materials, supporting global industries with cutting-edge, sustainable technologies within the hydrogen economy

What You’ll Do

- Lead customer-focused new product development projects from concept to commercialisation.
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to deliver bespoke solutions aligned with end-use requirements.
- Provide technical guidance on process optimisation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
- Manage laboratory and pilot line activities, ensuring robust scale-up and quality standards.
- Build trusted relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, becoming a technical advisor in your field.
- Apply Six Sigma and practical problem-solving principles to design and trial new products.
- Support strategic initiatives including export control, IP management, and chemical safety compliance.
- Carry out structured, repetitive practical processes requiring a high level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Travel on occasion to customers and trade shows as required

What You’ll Bring

- A degree or higher in Chemistry
- Experience in a technical role, ideally within materials science or a related field.
- Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt or Design for Six Sigma qualification.
- PRINCE2 Foundation or equivalent project management training.
- Advanced data analysis skills including DOE and process capability assessment.
