Role

An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).

The Art and Technology Technician supports teachers and students by preparing materials, maintaining equipment, and providing general assistance in art and technology classes. The role contributes to a safe, organised, and engaging learning environment through the routine preparation of materials, assistance with displays, and support with basic administrative and operational tasks.

An education support class position at this range commencing at the base will initially be limited to undertaking routine tasks that are carried out under close supervision and direction. Work that carries some degree of independence will generally involve a limited number of tasks performed on a regular basis where priorities are clear, procedures are well established, and direction is readily available. Subject to any specific qualification and/or training requirement, an education support class employee employed in this range may be progressively required to undertake coordination, specialisedstudent/teacher support tasks, or technical tasks as experience in the role is gained.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position will be:

Classroom and Materials Preparation

- Prepare and organise classroom materials and equipment for art and technology lessons (e.g. cutting, trimming, laminating, priming, mounting, and labelling).
- Assist teachers in setting up and packing down materials for lessons, workshops, and demonstrations.
- Mix or prepare basic art materials such as paints, glazes, and adhesives following established safety procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and presentation of student work for displays and exhibitions.
- Provide basic instruction to students on the safe and correct use of tools or materials under teacher supervision.
- Support teachers with the routine movement and organisation of resources between rooms.

Equipment and Safety Support

- Undertake routine cleaning, maintenance, and safe storage of art and technology equipment.
- Assist in identifying and reporting damaged or unsafe equipment and materials to supervising staff.
- Follow safety procedures and support teachers in maintaining safe classroom practices.
- Undertake routine risk checks in line with provided guidance and assist in implementing safety procedures under supervision.
- Follow manual handling and chemical safety instructions for materials such as paints, adhesives, or glazes.
- Undertake low or medium-risk tasks as defined by departmental guidelines.

Administrative and Operational Support

- Assist teachers with ordering and restocking of art and technology materials.
- Maintain simple inventory and storage records for materials and consumables.
- Operate and assist others with the routine use of equipment such as laminators, paper cutters, printers, and photocopiers.
- Support the preparation and duplication of teaching materials (e.g. printing, photocopying, and binding).
- Assist with routine communication or documentation related to classroom resources or displays.
- Support the coordination and setup of art and technology displays or events under teacher direction.

Collaboration and Communication

- Work cooperatively with the Art Domain Leader, teaching staff, and Business Manager to meet classroom and event needs.
- Communicate with staff about routine operational or material requirements.

Liaise with suppliers about routine orders or deliveries under supervision

Flexibility about which day of the week is worked and flexibility to split into two half days.

20 days Annual Leave plus 30 additional days Paid Leave(for ES only)

A full-time teaching service employee (principal, teacher, education support and paraprofessional class), is entitled to 152 hours (20 days) annual leave in respect of each 12 months of service which accrues progressively during a year of service, according to the employee's ordinary hours of work. Part-time employees receive annual leave entitlements on a pro rata basis, calculated according to the time fraction worked.

Education support class employees are expected to use additional paid leave during school vacation periods.
