About the role:
The primary role and responsibility of the Instrument Technician is to ensure the effective and efficient processing of all reusable medical devices within the policy and guidelines of the Sterile Processing Centre and State and National Standards. All Instrument Technicians are members of the multidisciplinary Sterile Processing Centre team.
Work in all areas of SPC (including Endoscopy suite) to provide the full range of reprocessing services, including, but not limited to:
- Decontamination
- High Level Disinfection
- Endoscopy
- Checking RMDs and setting of instrument trays
- Packaging (Sterile Barrier System)
- Sterilizing
- Sterile storage
- Ensures resources, equipment and processes checked, tested and maintained
- Accurate and complete documentation as per operational requirements
- Identify, trouble shoot and report variances
The classification range for these positions will be IN1 - IN4 ($57,002.40 - $73,502.00 per annum, pro rata for part time). Or casual hourly rate ($28.85 - $37.19) plus 25% loading.

- Minimum three (3) months experience (full time equivalent) working as an Instrument Technician
- Does not hold an Instrument Technician Qualification, or holds an Instrument Technician Qualification but has less than twelve (12) months post qualification experience (full-time equivalent) as an Instrument Technician. An Instrument Technician qualification refers to either of the below:
- Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (HLT37015)
- Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services (HLT47015)
- An equivalent qualification awarded by a registered training organisation, recognised by the Employer as such.

- Assists in the supervision, mentoring of other technicians.
- Undertakes a clinical tutor/ mentor role.
- Provides feedback (verbal and written) to all staff as directed.
- Ensures resources, equipment and processes checked, tested and maintained as per operational requirements
- Accurate and complete documentation as per operational requirements
- Identify, trouble shoot and report variances
- Ensure reporting and escalation of issues or concerns occur and follow up of actions where appropriate
- Participate in departmental meetings and orientate new staff as directed
- Participate in, and provides ongoing education to other staff
- Attending training and study days as required or requested
- Be responsible as an advanced practitioner for the coordination of the shift, supervision and education of Instrument Technicians in the delivery of reprocessed RMDs in an accurate and timely manner

SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION, LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum three years' experience (full-time equivalent) as an Instrument Technician.
- Holds a Certificate IV in Sterilisation Services (HLT47015) or equivalent qualification awarded by a registered training organisation, recognised by the Employer as such.
