Job Description
The Opportunity
The House Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of an Intensive Therapeutic Care (ITC) residence. They ensure a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment for children and young people in care, while also providing leadership and support to the care team.
The PSP ITC House Manager has the following key accountabilities:
- Operational Management
- Case Planning and Coordination
- Creating Therapeutic Environment
- Crisis Management and Safety
- Communication and Collaboration
- Documentation and Reporting

- Cultural confidence and ability to demonstrate knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community.
- Qualifications: Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Services, or related field, along with current First Aid and CPR certification, valid Working with Children Check (WWCC), and National Police Check.
- Experience in operation management within the child protection, out‑of‑home care, or intensive therapeutic care sectors, including:
- In‑depth understanding of, and adherence to, relevant legislation (including the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act), OCG child safety standards, WHS legislation, and organizational policies, with the ability to guide team members in implementing these standards.
- Providing direct support to children and young people, including those with complex needs.
- Ability to engage and work collaboratively with family and significant others.
- Strong advocacy skills with the ability to promote the rights and best interests of children and young people.

- Proven knowledge and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community.
- Qualifications: Certificate IV in Youth Work, Community Services, or related field, along with current First Aid and CPR certification, valid Working with Children Check (WWCC), and National Police Check.
- Understanding and application of the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998 and related legislation.
- Knowledge and application of the Aboriginal Placement Principles.
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed care principles and therapeutic approaches for children and young people.
- Demonstrated experience working with children and young people in care, particularly those with complex trauma and behavioural issues.
- Experience in implementing therapeutic interventions and trauma‑informed practices is highly desirable.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children, young people, families, and professionals.
- Teamwork skills and ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Organisational skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
- Strong advocacy skills with the ability to promote the rights and best interests of children and young people.
- Experience providing direct support to children and young people, including those with complex needs.
- Ability to engage and work collaboratively with families and significant others.
- Understanding of safety protocols and procedures in crisis situations.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to engage in reflective practice and contribute to continuous improvement processes.
- Commitment to upholding child safety, rights, and quality care principles as outlined by the OCG.
