Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced vet nurse with well‑established medicine and surgery exposure to assist in our busy vet clinic in Dubbo.

Benefits

$76,515 to $85,000 plus Super depending on experience

Task & Responsibilities

The role provides a true opportunity to expand your skills as a Lead Veterinary Nurse with the following key responsibilities:

Clinical Support and Animal Care

- Assist veterinarians with consultations, diagnostic procedures, surgeries, and anaesthesia monitoring.

- Perform nursing duties including patient preparation, restraint, administration of medication, wound care, and post‑operative monitoring.

- Provide nursing care to hospitalised patients, including feeding, cleaning, and comfort management.

- Collect samples and perform in‑house laboratory tests (blood, urine, faecal, cytology) as required.

- Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date medical records for all patients.

Client Communication and Education

- Communicate effectively and compassionately with clients regarding patient care, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow‑up appointments.

- Educate clients on preventative healthcare including nutrition, parasite control, and vaccination schedules.

- Provide support to clients during stressful or emotional situations with empathy and professionalism.

Surgical and Anaesthetic Support

- Prepare surgical suites and ensure equipment is sterile and functioning.

- Induce and monitor anaesthesia under veterinarian supervision.

- Assist in surgical procedures and ensure safe recovery of patients.

- Maintain surgical logs, anaesthetic records, and patient charts.

Practice Operations and Administration

- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across all clinical areas, wards and surgical rooms.

- Manage inventory of pharmaceuticals, consumables and medical supplies.

- Support reception duties as needed, including scheduling, invoicing and processing payments.

- Adhere to all workplace health and safety policies and infection control standards.

Qualification & Experience

Essential criteria:

- At least Certificate III or IV in Veterinary Nursing or relevant higher qualification or at least 3 years of relevant work experience if without formal qualifications.

- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience.

- Excellent animal handling skills.

- Must possess extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures.

- Exceptional organisation, communication and customer service skills.

Salary: $76,515 - $85,000
