Aboutthe Role:
Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) department of Nutrition and Dietetics are seeking Dietitians to join our team across both inpatient and outpatient services and provide evidence-based nutrition and dietetic care that supports the health and wellbeing of children with diverse and often complex needs.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT) – including medical specialists, nursing, and other allied health professionals – to deliver holistic patient centred-care.
Working collaboratively within MDT settings across various specialties, you will manage a varied caseload across medical and surgical wards, providing tailored nutrition care for children and infants with acute and chronic health conditions.
While paediatric dietetics experience is desirable, it is not essential. you will be supported by strong supervision and mentoring from a Senior Dietitian (P2) and complete our clinical supervision program within your first one to two years at PCH.
Your work will include:
- Developing and adapting nutrition care plans for children with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and complex medical needs under the primary care of paediatricians or surgeons.
- Supporting infants with feeding challenges and growth concerns, including initiating, monitoring, and adjusting feeding regimens in collaboration with the medical, allied health and nursing teams.
- Monitoring biochemistry, interpreting results, and contributing to care planning and patient education.
- Collaborating within a multidisciplinary feeding team and advocating for patients’ nutritional needs within clinical discussions.
- Participates in the delivery of educational programmes and the assessment of their effectiveness.
- Providing input into NDIS applications and community referrals to ensure ongoing nutritional support post-discharge.
- Liaison and support to NDIS and Dietitians external to PCH including NDIS and WACHS, where required.
- Liaising with food services to ensure appropriate meal provision for patients with specialised dietary needs or restrictions.
- Supporting quality improvement projects, clinical audits, and research to enhance nutrition care delivery and patient outcomes.
Dietitian (Diabetes and Endocrinology)
This role offers the opportunity to support children and adolescents with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and endocrine disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Occasional leave for Healthy Weight Service clinics may be required.
While diabetes experience is desirable, it is not essential — comprehensive training and clinical supervision will be provided.
Your work will include:
- Providing education to individuals and caregivers on nutrition management, carbohydrate counting and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Supporting newly diagnosed patients and families with inpatient education and transition to outpatient care.
- Collaborating closely with endocrinologists, diabetes nurse educators and social workers as part of a cohesive multidisciplinary team.
- Develop family-centred goals to support dietary changes to optimise glycaemic control, growth and development.
- Reviewing and interpreting data from blood glucose monitoring systems and insulin pump devices and working with individuals and caregivers to optimise their diabetes management.
- Travel with multidisciplinary team to outer metro and regional diabetes clinics to provide dietetic care.

Our Dietetics Team provide a statewide service offering medical nutrition therapy for patients aged 0-16 years and offers assessment, education, and ongoing nutritional management for inpatients and outpatients attending various specialty medical clinics.
Our specialised team work closely with multidisciplinary teams to support children in achieving optimal health and growth outcomes, including nutritional assessments, tailored dietary recommendations, and the implementation of therapeutic diets within the hospital. Dietitians also provide guidance on nutritional needs for home, educating families on general nutrition and any necessary dietary modifications.
Our team offers telephone consultancy for health professionals seeking guidance on paediatric nutrition and provide lectures and group training for medical and nursing staff, postgraduate dietetic students, and school nurses on managing medical conditions such as diabetes and cystic fibrosis. As part of our commitment to excellence, we encourage and support research and professional development across the team.
