Karara Mining Limited (KML) is an Ansteel Group company formed as a joint venture with Gindalbie Metals Limited. Ansteel is one of the largest iron ore producers and steel makers in China. Located 200km south‑east of Geraldton, Western Australia, Karara is the largest mining operation and the first major magnetite mine in the Mid‑West. It produces a premium, high‑grade concentrate product for export to steelmakers.

The opportunity

We have an excellent opportunity for an experienced Refrigeration Technician to join our site‑based Maintenance Team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining all chiller systems, cooling systems, and site air‑conditioning units to ensure they remain in optimal working condition, while adhering to all KML policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the maintenance and inspection of chiller units, along with a solid understanding of industrial refrigeration systems and infrastructure within a similar processing plant environment.

This role operates on 8 days on and 6 days off continuous day shift rotation.

To be successful in the role, the following is essential:

- Restricted Electrical & Refrigerant Handling

- Proven understanding of industrial refrigeration system maintenance and infrastructure in a mineral processing plant environment

- Strong understanding safety standards, including permit systems and risk management tools

- Demonstrated experience maintaining and inspecting chiller units

- National Police clearance

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be legally permitted to work permanently in Australia.

Key Duties include (but are not limited to):

- Complete preventative maintenance checks as outlined in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

- Support infrastructure projects in alignment with scope of works

- Utilise the company CMMS to manage and record maintenance activities

- Manage the use and storage of refrigerant gasses in compliance with statutory regulations

- Monitor and communicate refrigeration downtime events which may impact site personnel, safety systems, environment or plant operations

- Collaborate with the Maintenance team on initiatives to achieve cost savings and increased productivity for the organisation

- Perform general air conditioner and refrigeration system works with the ability to complete emergency repairs

- Conduct electrical repairs and inspections within the limitations of an electrical ticket

- Coordinate and prioritise maintenance activities minimising interruptions to personnel and the processing plant.

About Karara Mining

Located 200 km south‑east of Geraldton in the Shire of Perenjori, Western Australia Karara has an expected mine life of 30+ years. The operation includes a large open pit mine, complex ore processing and beneficiation plant and significant infrastructure and logistics networks. As part of the logistics network Karara owns and operates 80 km of railway between Tilley Junction and the Karara mine site, linking the Karara Export Terminal at the Port of Geraldton, able to handle up to 16 Mtpa of export product from a dedicated berth, with associated rail and train unloading infrastructure.
