Employment Type: Temporary Part Time up to 30 June 2026. Possibility of extension

Position Classification: Health Mgr Lvl 3

Remuneration: 132,236 – 150,222 full‑time equivalent base salary range (excludes super, leave loading and salary packaging)

Hours Per Week: 24 (3 days per week and would be suitable for a secondment within NSW Health, with approval from your current manager)

About the role

This role will provide strategic leadership and cultural governance, including expert guidance to ensure that NCIRS’s policies, research, and practices are aligned with national best‑practice standards relevant to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health. The position will support the National Indigenous Immunisation Lead in strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander immunisation programs, engagement, and collaboration across the health sector.

Key aspects of the role involve leading, managing and developing NCIRS staff to ensure effective implementation of relevant strategies and initiatives, with a critical role in embedding cultural competence across NCIRS. The National Indigenous Immunisation Coordinator will also contribute to positioning NCIRS as an employer and academic institution of choice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander professionals and students.

About you

- Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised by Section 14(d) of the Anti‑Discrimination Act 1977, NSW

- Have a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and cultural diversity across Australia, with a high level of cultural competence, and ability to balance diverse perspectives of all stakeholders and communities.

- Extensive experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, including in strategic leadership roles, with demonstrated knowledge of immunisation and vaccine‑preventable diseases in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About NCIRS

NCIRS is the leading organisation in Australia in immunisation and vaccines that provides expert advice to support evidence‑informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of immunisation programmes, particularly the National Immunisation Program, and the monitoring of vaccine‑preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and factors impacting uptake, and vaccine safety. NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and has a growing programme of international work, focused on providing technical support for immunisation system strengthening to countries in the Indo‑Pacific region.

NCIRS is a collaborative team of experts in public health, biostatistics, infectious diseases, paediatrics, internal medicine, epidemiology, communication, social science and quantitative and qualitative research and survey methods. www.ncirs.org.au

The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all‑age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney. NCIRS is funded primarily by the Australian Government and NSW Government, as well as via grants from WHO, Gavi, and research granting bodies.

- Describe any experience you have had in the design, implementation and knowledge transfer of research involving, or impacting on, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders and communities, including applying the principles of ethical research in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and data governance and sovereignty.
