The primary purpose of this position is to supervise a dedicated a team of Phlebotomy staff committed to providing an effective and efficient phlebotomy service.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, laboratory, medical and nursing staff at all levels, and show empathy, compassion and understanding towards patients.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

- Advanced level of technical skills in Phlebotomy.
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of standard precautions in dealing with patients and clinical specimens.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the procedures and processes of Specimen Collection or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge and skills in this area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of ieMR, the correct collection workflow and ability to navigate, support and provide training.
- Demonstrated self-motivation, ability to work in a responsible and efficient manner, and without direct supervision, and demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, co-ordinate and train staff to provide an efficient and effective service.
- Ability to prioritise workload to meet the clinical need of patients and to ensure an efficient client-focused service, whilst managing supervisory duties as required.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, commitment to teamwork, and ability to communicate effectively, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, laboratory, medical and nursing staff at all levels, and show empathy, compassion and understanding towards patients
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams to positive outcomes, through inclusive and supportive team leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to implement quality systems which meet NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and manage staff in line with quality human resource management practices with particular reference to Queensland Health Code of Conduct, employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
- Demonstrated commitment to professional self-development.

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Mandatory Certificate III in Pathology Collection
- Cert IV in Pathology Specimen Collection would be highly regarded.
