**About the role**
We seek a customer-focused and team-oriented Legal Officer who is looking to join a dynamic team that focuses on individual career development in a supportive and energetic environment.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Assisting with a range of administrative law and governance matters, including privacy and Council's compliance with the legislative requirements of the Local Government Act 2020; and
- Assisting with a range of legal matters, including drafting and reviewing agreements and contracts, and providing advice
- Acting as one of Council’s Freedom of Information Officers to manage FOI requests;
- Maintaining and updating Council's extensive delegation instruments to enable sound decision-making;
- Preparing authorisations for officers with legislative responsibilities;
- Maintaining public registers;
- Assisting with managing Council's policies;
- Advising on complaints and disputes, preparation and content of briefs of evidence, best practices in gathering evidence to enable Council to initiate criminal proceedings and compliance with the Charter of Human Rights legislation and processes;
- Conduct prosecutions in accordance with delegations and authorisations and keep and maintain accurate records and the completeness of all Court documentation for every matter.

**About you**
Our Corporate Counsel team is small and close-knit, so we are looking for an individual who shares our team ethos of being collaborative, collegiate and committed.

The following will be highly regarded;
- A tertiary qualification in law or related field and/or relevant experience
- Experience in providing governance or legal advice in a government or highly regulated environment
- Experience with court processes
- Experience drafting and reviewing contracts
