**The Opportunity**:
Are you passionate about promoting Aboriginal culture and making a meaningful impact in the lives of Aboriginal children and people? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Aboriginal Consultant at Junction, where you can contribute to the development of culturally sensitive policies, programs, and practices across our organisation.

As our Principal Aboriginal Consultant, you will guide and inform Junction's operational and strategic strategies for Aboriginal children and people. You will provide advice on complex Aboriginal needs and culturally appropriate practices, driving systemic change to ensure culturally sensitive services, particularly for children and young people in out-of-home care. Your role includes advising Junction's executives and middle management on critical and sensitive Aboriginal cases, supporting the Aboriginal Placement Principle and Closing the Gap initiatives, and contributing to the development of culturally appropriate processes and systems. You will conduct practice audits, develop culturally sensitive casework practices, and actively participate in the development of culturally appropriate programs.

To excel in this role, you will have a demonstrated understanding of the historical, political, and socio-economic circumstances affecting Aboriginal people coupled with relevant qualifications. Your knowledge of intergenerational trauma, the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle, and Closing the Gap initiatives will be crucial in performing the role. You should have experience establishing and maintaining networks and partnerships with Aboriginal communities, both locally and nationally. Your skills in facilitating culturally appropriate interventions and working directly with children and families in social work or case management capacity will be invaluable. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, along with the ability to prioritise workload and work independently or as part of a team, are essential.

We are seeking a passionate person who:

- Has the ability to facilitate the implementation of culturally appropriate models of intervention for Aboriginal young people and their families
- Possesses both knowledge and an understanding of the past and current impact of colonisation on Aboriginal children, young people, families and community regarding the overrepresentation of children in state care and intergenerational trauma
- Has experience in establishing, leading and maintaining formal and informal networks and partnerships with Aboriginal people through their kinship systems across the State and Nationally such as the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) and the Family Matters Campaign
- Possess highly developed oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and negotiation skills at all levels
- Holds a Degree or tertiary qualifications in Social Work, or relevant equivalent (or lesser qualification complemented by substantial relevant experience)
