About the Role

We are seeking a Safeguarding Consultant, for a Permanent opportunity in DHQ Queensland.

To lead the implementation of the Safety and Wellbeing of Children and Young People Framework and Policy across their division within TSA including risk assessments, training, advice, developing and monitoring safeguards and child safety compliance.

The Safeguarding Consultant will be responsible for managing, recording and reviewing all the Safeguarding cases within their division. This includes providing advice and coaching regarding the management of new and ongoing matters of concerning behaviours and allegations to ensure The Salvation Army meets its legislative, compliance and reporting requirements for safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities:
You will be successful in this role if you can:
- Provide specialist advice to Divisional Leaders, State Managers, Corps Officers and Centre managers and others regarding risks to children and vulnerable people, including risk assessments, management of concerning behaviour, allegations of abuse and/or misconduct, and development and management of Safeguarding Management Plans in accordance with the Person of Interest (Safeguarding) Policy.- Ensure registers of Persons of Interest are updated and maintained.- Ensure all Case Management notes, and records of communication are documented, stored, and managed appropriately.- Provide monthly reports to the GM Safeguarding and Head of Q & S with recommendations for managing reviewed cases.- Review Safeguarding Management Plans in line with the POI policy and procedures.- Regular reporting of findings of safeguarding assessments and continuous improvement plans to management including Divisional Leaders and Safeguarding Operations.- Complete Corps based Risk Assessments as required and recommend ways to reduce risk to children.- Complete situational risk assessments as required and recommend ways to reduce risk to children.

Training- Train Officers, Employees and Volunteers in Safeguarding Development Modules across the Division, including social programs as required.- Undertake professional supervision to manage cases as required.

Fact Finding- Undertake fact-finding as required for allegations related to concerning behaviour, misconduct and reportable conduct.- Ensure all concerns related to reportable conduct are managed in line with the requirements for reporting.

Qualifications and Experience:
Qualifications:
- Degree qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Criminology, Social Sciences, or similar- Proficient level of computer literacy in MS Office.

Experiences:
- Previous experience in assessing safeguarding risks.- Ability to handle confidential information in a confidential, sensitive, and professional manner.- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in handling competing deadlines.- Problem solving involving complex situations and managing conflict

Requirements of the Role:
- A national police and WWCC check is required.- This role will require flexible hours including: periodic on call for weekends and public holidays, weekend and after hours work for training where training groups are not available during weekday work hours (e.g. Volunteers and Ministry Leaders), and regular travel throughout the Division where the role is based.
