**The Language Services Department**

The Alfred Health’s Language Services Department is responsible for the provision of all internal and external interpreting services to patients from a culturally and linguistically diverse background and their families/significant others, across the three campuses, Alfred Hospital, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital

**Position Summary**

We are seeking an enthusiastic Greek Interpreter an to join the Alfred Health Speech Pathology & Language services team.

An Interpreter at Alfred Health has the following roles and responsibilities:

- To provide high quality professional interpreting services to culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) patients who receive care at Alfred Health
- To work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team to facilitate communication between CALD patients and Alfred Health staff
- To assist in the maintenance and development of language services for CALD patients at Alfred Health

**Qualifications and Skills Required**

**_ Essential:_**
- Appropriate Tertiary qualifications and/or minimum of NAATI Certified Interpreter qualification.
- Extensive medical/health vocabulary, knowledge of medical terminology and medical contexts.
- Knowledge of interpreter ethical issues and how they relate to service provision.
- Demonstrated empathy, sensitivity and tact in relation to health issues faced by consumers of Alfred Health.
- Effective, well developed communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to promote the service in a professional manner.
- Driver’s Licence

**_Desirable:_**
- NAATI certification as a translator
- NAATI certification as a Certified and/or Provisional and/or Recognized Interpreter in a second language
- Knowledge of the Victorian Public Health system.

**_ Skills: _**

- Knowledge of interpreter ethical issues and how they relate to service provision.
