Established in 1927, UWA Law School is the fifth oldest Law School in Australia and is Western Australia’s premier Law School. We have a long and proud history of academic excellence, providing a broad range of education programs and leading research projects with impact. The Law School comprises over fifty scholars engaged in teaching and research in law, socio-legal studies and criminology. Continually evolving to meet current and future challenges, we have particular focus on internationalisation and multi-disciplinarily. Faculty have been drawn from top universities around the world including Australia, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa and have broad ranging expertise delivering quality teaching programs.

Scholars within the Law School are engaged in a diverse range of legal and socio-legal research areas covering public, private, international and domestic law, as well as law and society, justice studies and criminology. Our research projects are focused on producing valuable scholarship with real-world impact through a variety of written outputs (books, journal articles, research reports, submissions) as well as disseminating information through public lectures, workshops, online and within our taught programs.

**About the opportunity**

The appointee will work with support and guidance from more senior academics and be responsible for contributing to the School’s teaching programs, research, and engagement activities and for carrying out the duties of an academic in their field of expertise at their level of appointment.

The appointee will teach into the School’s professional qualifying degree, the Juris Doctor, and other postgraduate programs particularly in the areas of Intellectual Property Law and/or Environmental Law, Native Title and Heritage Law. They may also be required to teach into the law undergraduate programs.

**About you**

If selected as the successful appointee, you will contribute to UWA Law School’s teaching programs, including its flagship Juris Doctor and the Law School’s Indigenisation of the JD Curriculum project.

You will also be expected to research, undertake research engagement activities and begin to develop a research profile appropriate for an academic in your field of expertise and at your level of appointment.

In addition, you will be required to contribute, both internally and externally, to the Law School and broader University and external community.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

- A Masters degree, or equivalent, in Law
- Made progress towards or be commencing a PhD, or equivalent, in Law
- Demonstrated experience in teaching Law
- An emerging research profile in Law
- Demonstrated ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity principles
- Demonstrated ability to liaise and effectively communicate with relevant sections of the community, professional bodies, government departments and other external organisations
- Evidence of high level interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication
