THE ROLE
We are currently inviting expressions of interest from appropriately qualified individuals interested in being engaged as casual Classroom Assistants in
- Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC)
, within the Macquarie School of Education.
You will assist in creating a learning environment for primary aged students with special learning needs, including mild or moderate intellectual disability, autism, and/or a language disability. You will work closely in a team with other professionals to support the development of each child to their maximum potential in academic and classroom self-management skills.
Key Accountabilities- Assist Classroom Teacher in all aspects of the teaching and learning program in the classroom;- Assist and support students with personal care if required;- Produce resources and teaching materials as required;- Supervise students on excursions, incursions, playground and transport duties.
ABOUT YOU
You will have a Certificate III Qualification in Disability and/or Classroom Support and proven experience working with children and/or young people with special learning needs. Your experience working with young people with special learning needs has equipped you with strong interpersonal skills, effective communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and the community.

MUSEC aims to support the development of each child to their maximum potential in both academic and classroom self-management skills.
Features of the MUSEC school program include:
- intensive small group instruction in literacy and numeracy by specialist teachers- program adjustment based on progress monitoring, ensuring a truly individualised program- assistance with learning classroom self-management skills- assistance in the development of speech and language skills- collaboration with parents- assistance for each student’s transition to their next educational setting.
