**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Attend training, complete study units and on the job practical experience as well as any required secondments to meet qualification requirements for Certificate III Horticulture.
- Work towards becoming competent in the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment such as vehicles, ride on mowers; spraying equipment; and small motorised equipment.
- Communicate effectively with team members and with Supervisor and be responsible for simple record keeping, such as time cards and basic reports.
- Actively participate in team meetings by contributing ideas and information.
- Interact with customers in a positive and courteous manner.
- Active participation in development and learning pathways including attendance to industry, OSH and corporate training.
- Responsible for own safety and the safety of the team and public when undertaking operational activities.
- Proactively identify and address risks by adopting safe working practices, undertaking preventative maintenance or reporting risks to the appropriate person.
- Ensure the City’s Safety Framework is understood and complied with.
- Embodies the City’s values and abides by relevant legislation, management practices, policies and procedures, and the City’s Code of Conduct and ensures these are understood by members of the team.
- Other duties as reasonably required to assist the City’s business as usual operations.
**JOB REQUIREMENTS**
- Demonstrates interest in horticulture.
- Computer skills to adapt to City specific technology systems.
- Basic understanding of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) requirements, processes and practices relevant to the nature and requirements of operational work within public open space and road reserves.
- Literacy and numeracy skills.
- Developing interpersonal skills with the ability to convey information and express thoughts and facts.
- Effective listening skills and displays openness to other people’s ideas and thoughts.
- Fosters respect for all individuals and demonstrates positive, safe and inclusive behaviours. Interacts appropriately without regard to individual characteristics.
- Responsive, enthusiastic, professional, friendly and positive.
- Curious and willing to adopt new work methods; seeks way to improve processes and be more effective, is constructive and embraces change.
**SALARY**
$21,500 - $30,000 plus 10.5% Superannuation
- National Training Wage Award
- Fully Funded Qualification
**MORE INFORMATION**
- People with tertiary qualifications need not apply. Current university applicants may have to defer their studies to be eligible for this traineeship.
- This position is best suited to a recent secondary school leaver.
