Head Route Setter

At Northside Boulders the Head Route Setter / Head Coach, will be required to schedule, co-ordinate and conduct the route setting activities between our three Melbourne locations (Brunswick, Northcote and Abbotsford). This will include creating high quality boulder problems in line with our route setting policies and community expectations, managing a team of route setters and gathering and implemening customer feedback. In addition, the role is responsible for developing and managing the coaching staff and coaching program, instructing climbers on climbing technique and safety practices. As part of our management team, the Route Setting Manager is also expected to be across our general business operations and may be required to cover desk shifts from time to time.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
**HEAD ROUTE SETTER / HEAD COACH**
**Managing Route Setting**
- Set and test routes up to V11
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to route setters
- Schedule and coordinate setting with route setters and management staff
- Work with management staff to maintain and develop setting and coaching staff
- Undertake the purchase and maintenance of setting equipment, including ordering holds and volumes
- Collaborate with other team members on competitions and other special events
- Follow and provide guidance on appropriate safety guidelines
- Develop route setting policies and procedures in line with industry standards
- Conduct stakeholder consultation and collaborate with industry to maintain current and high level setting and coaching practices
- Manage a team of setters during a reset to ensure it is completed on time and to required standards
**Managing Coaching**
- Coach, train and instruct climbers, by analysing their performance and technique with a view to developing their climbing and problem solving skills
- Instruct climbers in safe climbing practices and use of safety equipment
- Develop coaching capabilities of other coaching staff
- Liaise with other managers and staff to ensure consistency of coaching and service
- Develop and manage coaching protocols, documentation and programs
**PROFILE**
**Qualifications/ Professional experience**:
- At least 4 years’ experience as a Route Setter either full time or full-time equivalent in a commercial route setting environment is required
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Head Route Setter is required
- Some route-setting accreditation (both within Australia or abroad) will be highly regarded
- Previous international experience in the United States, Japan or Europe is preferred
- Other management experience will be highly regarded

**Salary**: $69,580.00 - $79,580.00 per year
