MANAGER SECURITY - PERSONNEL SECURITY AND

VETTING - SEVERAL ROLES

Executive Level 1

ASIS is Australia’s overseas secret intelligence collection agency. Its mission is to protect and

promote Australia’s vital interests through the provision of intelligence services as directed by the

Australian Government. Its work can involve collecting intelligence relating to national security,

international relations and economic issues. It also contributes to Australia’s coordinated national

efforts against terrorism, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, and transnational issues

such as people smuggling.

Security are seeking enthusiastic and capable individuals to fill a number of management roles

in the Personnel Security and Vetting teams. The successful applicants will contribute to further

enhancing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of ASIS’s security practices and culture.

Opportunities exist in our Vetting and Personnel Security Management teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

The successful applicants will be responsible for leading a team in the management and delivery

of one or more of the following:
Manage delivery of vetting activities
- conduct effective planning for delivery of upcoming vetting cases, including the

identification and effective resolution of priority cases
- allocate work appropriate to individual capability, development opportunities and

resourcing levels in consultation and agreement with the vetting officer
- mentor vetting teams, as required

Clearance maintenance and risk assessment

Perform Quality Assurance on completed vetting cases

Development, monitoring and implementation of ASIS’s security practices, policy and

procedures

Provide specialist security advice and assistance to ASIS staff, including personnel

security risk analysis

section and Branch
Manage section resources, including people, finance and equipment/ technology.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

The following education, qualifications and/or experience will be highly regarded:
Experience in PV Security Vetting;
Experience in developing and managing staff;
Certificate IV or Diploma in Personnel Security (Vetting) or equivalent;
Demonstrated high level reasoning and problem-solving skills;
Demonstrated organisational, liaison and negotiation skills;
Demonstrated understanding and experience in dealing with cultural and social

sensitivities (ability to find common ground and effectively build rapport, relationships and
networks with people, regardless of their background, age, gender or ethnicity);
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
A current driver’s licence.
