We are partnered with a government department who are focussed across the health sector & seeking an experienced Director of Internal Audit to lead and manage the internal audit team across this complex and dynamic organisation. This role is key to bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of management, administration, risk management, control & governance processes and bringing the organisation on a journey to best practice in a complex organisation that has important and competing priorities. Reporting the Executive Officer and based in South Western Sydney, your primary responsibilities include:

- Providing advice to the Chief Executive & Board; to enhance and protect organisational value by providing risk-based & objective assurance advice and insights.
- Co-ordinate delivery of projects against the board approved audit plan; including scheduling projects and monitoring progress to ensure reports are delivered to time and quality
- Uplift across systems and processes and engage with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and fit for purpose practices
- Oversee audit methodologies to ensure professional standards are met and uplift to improve effectiveness and efficiencies.
- Provide advice & guidance to senior managers at all levels, as appropriate, on audit; best practice; & probity issues.

Your background:

- You will be tertiary qualified with at least 5 years experience leading a complex audit function
- Strong leadership experience building & managing a team.
- Government & health experience is considered highly advantageous

This is a fulltime role that requires you on-site as stakeholder engagement is high. They offer flexibility (not hybrid). You will inherit a small team, with approved head count to build your team out to 7. You will know what good looks like and have the drive and energy to engage and uplift the audit framework.
