NSW Resources Regulator (a division of Mining, Exploration and Geoscience) is the state’s Work Health and Safety regulator for mines and petroleum sites. The Regulator also undertakes compliance and enforcement activities in relation to the Mining Act 1992, with a key focus on mine rehabilitation activities.
At the Resources Regulator we understand that work can be one of the biggest parts of people’s lives and we are building a team that has inclusion and passion at the heart of everything we do ensuring our values, social initiatives and culture resonate with our evolution and constant growth.
We are currently on the hunt for our new Principal Inspector (Small Mines), which incorporates quarries and sand mining. This role covers a large area of NSW so travel is a must.
**Responsibilities**:
- Assess, monitor, and review health and safety management systems to ensure regulatory compliance and worker safety.
- Manage teams carrying out announced and unannounced inspections and assessment activities at quarries and opal mines, including inspections on weekends and back shifts. Review assessment and inspection reports from your team and monitor enforcement actions.
- Oversee investigations of incidents and complaints, including review of circumstances, determining causal factors and making recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare alerts, bulletins and guidance material for the NSW mining community.
- Lead and manage work planning, targeted assessments, intervention processes and procedures. Ensure transparency and high standards are maintained across the evaluations, recommendations and actions of your team.
- Manage enforcement activities to ensure mine operations comply with health and safety legislation including overseeing issuing of improvement, prohibition and penalty notices. This includes oversight of consultation with mine operators to ensure corrective actions are addressed in a timely manner.
**You’ll need to**:
- Be able to work on weekends and backshifts and respond to incidents out of normal business hours on a rostered basis.
- Hold and maintain a current Class C driver licence.
- Be able to exercise leadership given a large geographical area containing a diverse range of mining operations, people and working conditions.

**Things to know about the role**:
- To be appointed you must possess and maintain the qualifications to be appointed as an inspector under section 18(2)(a) of the Work Health and Safety (Mines and Petroleum Sites) Act 2013, and in accordance with the Resources Regulator policy on qualifications of mine safety inspectors.
