Key Responisibilities Include
- Ability to triage and prioritise tasks in order to meet service delivery deadlines
- Participate in and contribute to a co-operative team within the laboratory with effective communication within the team and with clients internal and external to the laboratory thereby ensuring optimal client satisfaction.
- Maintain the day to day running of the SCUH mortuary performing duties including receipt and authorised release of bodies/coronial cases, body/limb checks and registration, viewings and identifications, liaison with administrative and medical staff regarding hospital autopsies and general maintenance, restocking and cleaning duties.
- Actively assist medical staff with the performance of adult, paediatric & neonatal hospital autopsies including evisceration, reconstruction and cleaning of deceased of all ages and in various stages of decomposition, infection, mutilation & incineration whilst ensuring utmost respect for the deceased.
- Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as Workplace Health and Safety, Infection Control, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-discrimination Policy.
- Participate in Quality Management processes, competency-based training and continuous quality improvement to ensure that the services provided are in line with models of best practice, meet the needs of our clients and maintain accreditation.
Key competencies
- Demonstrated or ability to acquire pathology laboratory and/or mortuary experience with proven ability to follow procedures and work conscientiously and accurately with mínimal supervision after instruction.
- Demonstrated experience or ability to acquire experience in the interpretation of coronial/mortuary/pathology paperwork together with the ability to effectively use or learn to use the relevant LIS (Laboratory Information System eg. Auslab).
- Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders to meet client expectations, and the ability to work in a team and contribute positively to team outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to proactively maintain a safe, secure and clean mortuary environment and an understanding of and willingness to contribute to the relevant systems, processes and procedures.
- Ability to actively participate in a working environment supporting quality human resource management practices including employment equity, anti-discrimination, occupational health and safety and ethical behaviour.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- Previous relevant mortuary (autopsy/dissection) experience would be well regarded
- Due to the unique stresses of the mortuary environment short listed applicants may be required to undergo psychometric testing.
- In some circumstances and following consultation, Queensland Health staff may be required to participate in 24 hour shift, on-call or weekend roster arrangements.
