We are actively engaged with our large Federal government client who are looking for WHS Advisor for a 6 months contract.

**What to expect**:
Our client is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced WHS Advisor to oversee, manage and coordinate safety requirements associated with the delivery of services to the Indian Ocean Territories - Christmas Island and the Cocos (Keeling) Islands - for a period of a 6-months. As this is an on-island role based on Christmas Island, accommodation and a vehicle will be provided for the contract period.
- Oversee, manage and coordinate safety requirements associated with the delivery of services, including construction and electrical projects of various types
- Work closely with project and on-island teams to ensure all safety matters are coordinated on site and drive a safety culture across the organisation
- Conduct toolbox talks, inductions, inspections, spot audits and risk assessments; participate in safety consultation meetings and assist with appointing safety officers on sites
- Ensure site compliance with legislation, codes of practice and Australian Standards
- Review contractors' compliance with Department of Infrastructure systems, including SWMS, plant documentation, SDS and project safety plans
- Develop and review local policies and procedures relating to WHS
- Incident investigation and reporting, support to internal and external audits, and other tasks related to the position

**About you**:

- The successful Specified Person will require an understanding of environmental factors, technical WHS expertise and ability to complete WHS risk registers, training needs analysis, job safety analysis, develop policies and procedures, and demonstrated ability to undertake training, consult and communicate with works and contractors.
- Demonstrate the ability to work with local SMEs to understand and develop specialist WHS requirements, and to implement associated policies and procedures with workers.
- Possess strong contract management and horizontal consultation skills with unions.
- Hold a Certificate IV or higher in Work Health and Safety, have a minimum of two years' experience within a construction or heavy industry safety related role, and hold a current driver's licence. Qualifications or training in building and construction, asbestos, HazChem, plant and electrical, and first aid will be viewed favourably.
