**A bit about the role**

As a Pound Attendant at our Point Cook facility, you will assist in providing the Wyndham community with a service for animal retrieval, enquiry, pet registration and re-uniting of lost animals.

You will ensure impounded animals are treated and cared for in accordance with relevant legislation and Council’s policies and procedures as well as providing education, information and shared resources relating to nuisance and impounded animals and responsible pet ownership.

**What you’ll do**
- Ensure that the legislation pertaining to animal pounds and shelters are adhered to
- Be responsible for the health and wellbeing of all impounded animals and make recommendations and assessments of animals as required (inc: health & temperament)
- Be responsible for receiving and releasing impounded animals
- Ensuring all pets are registered prior to leaving the facility
- Be responsible for all Pound audits and inventories, including ordering and maintaining operational levels of foods, resources and equipment
- Ensure specialist vehicle is maintained in operational order
- Ensure appropriate cash handling procedures are followed

**What you’ll bring**
- Demonstrated skills in handling domestic animals, using animal handling equipment including dog control devices
- An excellent understanding of relevant legislation relating to animals
- Possess a relevant TAFE or equivalent certificate and/or related experience.
- Experience in a field of employment relating to domestic animals and/or livestock
- Demonstrated understanding of animal behaviour and husbandry practices which includes domestic livestock
- Good communication, customer service and general administration skills
- Current Victorian Driver’s License
- Previous experience in a Local Government environment (desirable)
- A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude
