They run numerous large scale Distribution Centres across the country and currently have an opportunity to bring in a Safety, Health and Environment Manager, supporting both the Food and Liquor Pillars within the business. This role is an ongoing permanent position.
The SH&E Manager, will provide Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) leadership and support to the Food and Liquor business units operating across Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand. Proactively drive implementation of the SHE Strategy, deployment of practices which support legislative requirements, build capability within all levels of business leadership, foster effective workforce and trade partner engagement and drive continuous improvement.
This is a hands-on-role reporting directly to the Head of SH&E.
Key responsibilities of this role are:

- Provide advice and support to senior level management and business pillars regarding SHE and Injury Management programs, policies and processes.
- Support the development and implementation of the Metcash SHE Strategy and assist with the local coordination of safety, health & wellbeing and environmental initiatives.
- Ensure SHE processes are implemented at site level establishing a culture of ‘Safety as a Core Value’.
- Work with the National Injury Management Advisor to set the strategy for Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand Workers Compensation claims management, including the identification and upskilling of pillar return to work coordinators, implementation of all Injury Management processes, and effective care and rehabilitation of injured employees.
- Proactively manage safety, health and environmental risk, to coach and build capability in business leaders.
- Oversee compliance to relevant training needs analysis / matrices as required.
- Promote leadership to include key performance indicators for their direct reports for the completion of SHE Conversations to reinforce the right behavior and contribute to a safe culture in all pillars.
- Foster the identification of hazards, near misses and discomfort reporting for prompt investigation and to reduce the likelihood of injury and incidents. Monitor incident and injury reporting to maintain a consistent approach to investigations.
- Build leader’s capability to conduct SHE incident investigations and verify appropriateness of corrective actions and communication of learnings to align all with Leadership and Behavior standards.
- Provide accurate, timely and insightful weekly and monthly reporting to relevant stakeholders.
- Liaise with regulators to notify reportable incidents, including liaison with relevant pillar leaders to close out improvement and other notices.
- Conduct audits to verify compliance and behavior is in line with the SHE Management System. Work with pillar leads to review and develop action plans to address observations and non-conformances from audits to achieve continuous improvement.
- Proven ability to work effectively with line management to build capability and safety leadership

- Proven capability in Injury/Claims Management with preference for Return to Work Coordinator Certification
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer based software programs
- **Minimum 5 years’ experience** in operational safety, health and environmental roles, preferably in FMCG, warehousing, distribution and supply chain.
