About the role

The Clinical Coding Officer is responsible for the provision of timely and accurate coding of clinical information using the ICD-10-AM Classification System in accordance with coding guidelines and standards, both National and State. At Calvary Central Districts Hospital we are looking for an onsite coder or a blend of on-site plus remote coding.

**Your main duties will include**:
Translation of the narrative descriptions of diagnoses and procedures into valid, accurate and complete ICD-10-AM codes which reflect the resources consumed.
Assisting clinical staff in ensuring that the diagnoses and procedure descriptions recorded for coding include all levels of data specificity required for assignment of ICD-10-AM codes and that the sequencing and selection of the principal diagnosis reflects the true chronology of events in an episode of care, which is able to be clinically substantiated by supporting documentation in the medical record.
Liaison with other Clinical Coding Officers and organisations as appropriate, with regard to queries or problems in determining appropriate ICD-10-AM convention interpretations.
About you
Experience and demonstrated competency in Clinical Coding using ICD-10-AM Classification system for a period of at least 12 months experience is essential in a in a Hospital or health care setting
Demonstrated knowledge of Australian and South Australian Coding Standards is essential.
Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised essential.
Knowledge, understanding, commitment and demonstration of customer service culture in health care.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
An understanding of the ISAAC and Hospital Casemix Protocol data collection processes is desirable.
