About the role
The Technical Toolstore, also referred to as Ground Support Equipment (GSE) Fitter is responsible for the on-going maintenance, repair, modification and testing of aviation GSE and Support and Test Equipment (S&TE) within the scope of the Airbus maintenance organisation.
The Technical Toolstore is responsible to the Team Lead Maintenance Support for the performance of all GSE and related maintenance activities reported in company and customer recording systems. They are also responsible for maintaining GSE and S&TE to support customer operations and ground based activities to achieve capability outcomes.
Some of your day-to-day activities will include but are not limited to:
- Perform and where required supervise scheduled maintenance of Airbus GSE and S&TE
- Ensuring a technical inspection of all S&TE items is performed on procurement, prior to induction to Vendors and on return from Vendors
- Repair and/or replacement of all non-aircraft S&TE, including procurement of BDS as required
- Inspect OM GSE and provide repair advice and/or capability for unscheduled maintenance arisings
- Maintain tooling including controls within an aviation environment to regulator standards
- Utilise and maintain specialist and common S&TE in use within an aviation environment to regulator standards
- Perform identification and disposal of obsolete S&TE
- Identify breakdown spares, carrying out weekly wheel stock checks on customers Ground Power Units and Hans Rigs.
- Carry out weekly wheel stock checks on all Airbus GSE
- Assist the customer in repair of unserviceable assets
- Carry out Test & Tag of portable electrical equipment, maintaining records
- Maintain a working relationship with local vendors
- Supervise escort of contractors on site for loading and unloading of GSE
- Support operational Maintenance Services locally or in deployed locations domestically and international
- Carry out recall duties to meet customer requirements when rostered to hold the duty phone.
About you
To be successful in this role, it is a requirement to be able to work in a team environment with both uniform and civilian team members, have well developed relationship skills as well as good verbal and written skills. You will need to be someone who is able to work autonomously and to tight deadlines and work comfortably in a continuous improvement work environment. The role is a physical role and requires the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical.
The skills and experience that are desirable (but not mandatory) for this role include:
- Sound knowledge/understanding of S&TE maintenance policy in a Defence Aviation environment
- Demonstrated experience in the work of a Defence environment
- Sound understanding of interdependencies between maintenance, support engineering, and supply chain
- Previous work experience with hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of Hydraulic Test Stand System
- Knowledge of Technical Electronics
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality and customer satisfaction
Qualifications that would be desirable for this role may include:
- Certificate IV Aeroskills
- Certificate III GSE Tech
- Restricted Electrical Licence
- Test and Tag of Portable Electrical Equipment
- Ground support Engineering Electrical
- Fork Lift ticket / High Risk Licence - EWP above 11m
- Working at Heights Certification
