We are seeking a **Specialist Environmental Approvals **to assist with obtaining approvals under key State and Commonwealth environmental legislation. Working across the Rio Tinto Iron Ore business unit, made up of 17 integrated mining operations, you will have the opportunity to support brownfield and greenfield growth strategies through achieving key approvals.

This role will be part of the Rio Tinto iron ore Environmental Approvals team, which delivers environmental approvals for Rio Tinto’s mines, port, infrastructure and renewable projects. This role will support the Rio Tinto Energy Development team (RTED) by supporting implementation of Part IV and Part V environmental approvals strategies for an accelerated program of renewables projects. RTED has been established to support and accelerate the delivery of the Rio Tinto strategy, with multiple renewable energy workstreams in a fast-paced environment to advance Rio Tinto’s decarbonisation agenda.

Reporting to the Principal Environmental Approvals, you will:

- Provide support for obtaining environmental approvals under Part IV of the _Environmental Protection Act 1986 _and _Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and _implementing government approvals under Part V of the _Environmental Protection Act 1986_, the _Mining Act 1978 and the Rights in Water and Irrigation Act 1914_.
- Commission environmental surveys and studies to support environmental approvals
- Provide specialist advice on Environmental Approvals issues and requirements to GM / Manager level stakeholders within the Iron Ore division
- Work with a close-knit team who are collaborative and supportive and emulate the Rio Tinto values

**What you’ll bring**

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

- A Tertiary qualification in an environmental discipline or a related field
- Understanding of Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act and relevant Commonwealth legislation
- Understanding of Part V of the _Environmental Protection Act 1986_, the _Mining Act 1978 and the Rights in Water and Irrigation Act 1914_.
- The skills to communicate and consult effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Excellent technical writing skills, attention to detail and an ability to interpret and problem solve complex issues
- The ability to work in a team environment
