The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is looking to recruit a **Middleware Service Manager** to work in our Data, Middleware, Analytics section.

This is a permanent role at the Executive Level 1 classification level. The successful applicant can work from any of our offices located in Belconnen (Canberra), Docklands (Melbourne) or Adelaide, although a hybrid model of working from home and the office applies.

**About the role and the team**
- web app platforms (JBoss, IIS, Tomcat); and
- data management platforms (Pega, Informatica and Confirmit)
- cloud services (AWS and Azure)

A good understanding of the Amazon Web Services cloud and services is recommended for this role.

Duties of the Middleware Service Manager role will include:

- establish, participate and maintain relationships with stakeholders and vendors
- provide technical leadership to the team, educate technical staff and improve processes
- technical project management
- solution design
- contributing to strategic planning
- liaise with clients and vendors to troubleshoot and resolve critical issues
- make informed decisions about solutions and technical strategy/roadmap
- staff management and mentoring.

**What we are looking for (selection criteria)**

To be suitable you should have most or all of the following skills, qualities and experience:

- a proven ability to work with multiple stakeholders and multi-disciplinary teams by fostering positive working relationships using well-developed communication skills
- a proven ability to clearly communicate complex concepts to a broad range of stakeholders, both in writing and orally, with the ability to solve problems with a high degree of technical complexity
- technical project management skills, including preparation of reports, coordinating resources and experience in testing and security assurance of deliverables
- self-motivation, with an ability to adapt and a desire to learn
- technical solution evaluation and design skills, with a focus to streamline and optimise IT operations
- proven experience with leading geographically diverse teams; identifying areas for improvement, implementing best practices and supporting strategic planning
- proven experience administering, integrating and operating a range of Web, Middleware and Application Hosting, DevOps and Infrastructure Automation technologies and platforms.
