**Risk and Safety Advisor**

Your role is to provide professional advice to Councils and Prescribed Bodies (Scheme Members) on Occupational Hazard Control and Liability Risk Management. You will assist Scheme Members to contribute to the maintenance of the self
- insurance license and effectively implement and manage WHS strategies/ programmes, civil liability risk management and staff training.

**We will count on you to**:

- Working collaboratively and effectively with other Members of the WHS & Risk, Injury Management team and Scheme Members to ensure key deliverables are achieved as outlined in the LGRS RM/WHS Departmental Plan and Programs that contributes to the LGA SA Mutual Pty Ltd Strategic Plan.
- Working collaboratively and effectively with other Members of the Mutual Liability Scheme team and Scheme Members to assist Members to manage sector and specific risk management issues.
- Providing cost effective advice, and risk management assistance, both oral and written to Scheme Members on civil liability issues. Assist in the development of systems to assist Members manage specific risk management issues.
- Establishing, developing, and maintaining effective communication with Scheme Staff, Members, Government bodies and private enterprise which is relevant to Local Government
- Assisting with the marketing and profile of risk management as a culture within Local Government.
- Providing the link between the Members and the Schemes to ensure appropriate information flow occurs

- High-level communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work as a team Member
- Commitment to principles of Customer Service and Best Practice
- Sound knowledge of South Australian Work Health & Safety legislation, principles and practice
- Management of risk philosophy, expertise, and experience
- Knowledge of the Local Government Act 1999, other relevant Acts, and knowledge of Scheme Rules
- Knowledge of ISO 31000
- Understanding of law as it relates to civil liabilities, contracting, Common Law, etc
- Understanding of the risks within Local Government
- Understanding of the range of occupations/tasks/jobs within Local Government
- Knowledge of SA Return to Work Act 2014
- Capacity to work with Scheme Members and their employees at all levels
- Effective negotiation skills
- Ability to plan, organise and work independently with an associated ability to prioritise work goals
- Demonstrate initiative and innovative outlook
- Strong problem solving, analytical/research and decision-making skills
- Ability to organise and conduct training sessions
- High level of integrity in dealing with confidential information

**What makes you stand out?**
- Hold a current SA driver’s license
- Relevant auditing qualification or experience
