**The Opportunity**
The Biomedical Technician will work at the Belau National Hospital (BNH) in Palau as a member of the biomedical department. The Biomedical Technician will provide technical and capacity development support to the biomedical team to ensure the delivery of quality biomedical services at the hospital. The Biomedical Technician will continue to provide practical 'œhands on'
- training and support across the hospital to build capacity in computerising the maintenance management system and to assist and support the finalisation of SOPs. The goal of this support is to organise, structure and strengthen the Belau National Hospital's biomed department.
Monthly Remuneration: AUD5,800-7,000
Duration: 12 months with possibility of a further 12-month extension
**Specific Duties**:
The Biomedical Technician will be required to work closely and collaboratively with the biomedical team to ensure the effective transfer of skills and capacity through this assignment. Working with the biomedical team at the Belau National Hospital, the Biomedical Technician will be responsible for the following key duties:
- Installing new biomedical equipment and adjusting the device according to medical specifications
- Performing routine maintenance checks on biomedical equipment through testing, calibrating, and troubleshooting
- Training staff members to operate and care for equipment with physical demonstrations and educational presentation.
- Updating the inventory, placing orders, and verifying deliveries
- Repairing faulty machinery on a routine basis and tending to emergency repairs as needed
- Maintaining a digital record of equipment repairs, faulty components, and recalibrated devices
- Ensuring that all equipment meets company standards of safety and quality and is in compliance with relevant laws
- Supporting the development of Standard Operating Procedures for the biomed department
- Providing support to public health clinics as required
**Key Requirements**:
- Exceptional knowledge of the structure and uses of biomedical equipment
- Demonstrated technical skills and the ability to repair machinery with meticulous attention to detail
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a biomedical technician
- A bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering or technology, or a similar field
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and deliver in a national hospital setting
- Strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex information in layman terms
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural context to strengthen capacity and transfer skills to other team members
- Experience working in the Pacific or in a similar context (desired)
