**Staff Specialist Haematologist** for a Country Victorian Hospital.

**The** **Clinical** **Operations** **Division**:
The Clinical Operations Division encompasses acute, allied health, cancer and mental health services. We provide a wide range of general medical, surgical and specialty services including but not limited to; Oncology, Cardiology, Renal, Emergency, Women’s and Children’s, Critical Care, Specialist Clinics, Cancer Clinics and Mental Health Services. Our Allied Health teams provide a diverse range of programs and person centred care in inpatient, outpatient, community, home and residential care settings.

Within a state-of-the-art hospital, our Ambulatory and Critical Care, Medical Services, Surgical Services and Women’s and Children’s areas use the latest technologies to provide excellent care. Our world class Cancer Centre uses a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach to treat specific cancers. The Cancer Centre offers medical oncology, radiation oncology, specialist nurses, clinical trials and cancer research, palliative care, and a Cancer Wellness Program.

The Mental Health Service provides psychiatric care and treatment across a large catchment area in Victoria stretching from Swan Hill in the north of the state to Gisborne in the south. Family sensitive practice is central to our models of mental health care and best practice ensures the identification, inclusion and support of families, carers and children.

Each year our onsite Specialist Clinics provide over 100,000 service events, we also see more than 60,000 people in our Emergency Department and welcome around 1700 babies into the world. The Clinical Operations Division assists with the admission of more than 50,000 patients into the hospital each year.

**Cancer** **Services**:
The Oncology Unit is a day-stay unit providing a wide range of chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, biological response modifiers and symptom support. Patient care is provided by a multi-skilled team consisting of: medical oncologists, palliative care physicians, haematologists, medical oncology registrars and interns, clinical nurse specialists and oncology nurses who are specialists in chemotherapy administration and management and allied health professionals.

**The** **Position**:
This is a joint appointment between this hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

The position incumbent shall work 4 days per week for the pulic hospital and 1 day per week at Peter Mac. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive haematology care to the region, forming the regional arm of the Peter Mac haematology service. This includes clinical oversight of inpatients, a consultancy service, provision of an outpatient clinics, support of subregional hospitals, and strategic service development.

**Responsibilities** **and** **Accountabilities**:

- Provides high quality integrated assessment and care of patients with haematologic conditions
- Participates in the Ward Service roster including on-call / recall as required
- Participation in clinical trials

Attends outpatient clinics as rostered
- Participates in initiating and contributing to clinical trials
- Continuously reviews and improves quality processes and protocols
- Actively and regularly participates in peer review patient related activities
- Participates in Quality Assurance activities
- Provision of outreach clinics as directed by the st
