**About the Role**

**This is a Fixed Term Position until 31 August 2025**

The Principal Transport Planner will play an important role in shaping the future transport system in some of Victoria’s fastest growing areas and ensure the network contributes to the objectives of the Transport Integration Act. Working closely with the DTP regions, modal planning teams and with transport, place and land use planners at state and local level, the role will lead a program to identify, prioritise and develop infrastructure and non-infrastructure initiatives to address immediate and long-term challenges and which contribute towards a holistic, place-based vision.
The role will need to consider land use and transport challenges in an integrated manner and will be responsible for generating robust, evidence-based pathways on how best to support an efficient, sustainable and inclusive network over multiple time horizons.
The role not only requires an excellent knowledge of strategic transport modelling tools and techniques to consider under what circumstances future initiatives and investments are appropriate, but also have a strong understanding of Movement & Place principles in order to capture and understand the broader social, environmental, and economic outcomes that any future initiatives may influence.

The Principal Transport Planner will be a highly motivated professional, capable of working with a high degree of autonomy and experienced in delivering, collaborating and communicating complex information across a broad range of stakeholders.
The role will also assist the Manager in building team capability and mentor less experienced team members.

**Position Outcomes / Accountabilities**
- Strategy and Planning - The incumbent has ensured that a range of strategy and planning artefacts have been developed and accepted by key stakeholders
- Strategic Advice - The incumbent has provided accurate strategic advice in accordance with relevant strategies and business plan resulting in high levels of trust and stakeholder satisfaction
- Risk Management - The incumbent has ensured that risks, including operational and political risks, are identified and managed effectively
- Effective Communication - The incumbent has prepared a range of reports, correspondence, presentations and insights that present complex data in an easy-to-understand format. Documentation for various committees has been coordinated and prepared
- Expert Advice - The incumbent has provided specialist advice to internal stakeholders, including regional and project-based staff, to guide external and internal engagement. This has established positive relationships and led to the development of innovative solutions to complex problems
- Interpersonal Collaboration - The incumbent has effectively led a process of building trust and collaboration in their work group

**Qualifications and Experience**
**Desirable**
- Experience in strategic transport and place planning would be highly desirable
- A relevant tertiary degree, in engineering, transport or land use planning
