About the role
We have a new and exciting role at Port Phillip Prison - we are looking for a Correctional Officer who would like the chance to upskill into the role of a Canine Handler or an experienced Correctional Canine Handler looking for a new environment. This role comes with thirteen weeks fully paid training so a real chance to add a new skill set.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake search activities for contraband and dangerous materials within prison grounds.
- Investigate and compile profiles and intelligence information (including collating duties).
- Comply with and implements practices described in the Victorian Prisons Drug Strategy.
- Undertake the grooming, training and care of canine on a regular basis both on and off duty.
- Maintain canine performance at the required standard of performance.
- Liaison and relationship building with other external agencies.
- Assisting and cooperating in joint operations with other agencies.
- Track, monitor, audit and report on anomalies and/or breaches of security and report to management.

Essential requirements
- Current Cert III in Correctional Practice & two years correctional experience
- Must be fully Vaccinated (Triple Vaccinated)
- Demonstrate a high level of physical fitness.
- Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to write factual reports.
- Able to commit to a 13-week offsite training course.
- Have the ability to appropriately house and look after your canine at your place of residence and in your vehicle.
- Willing to work with your canine outside of working hours with a commitment to exercising your canine at least twice a day when not rostered.
