Junior Solicitor, Trial Division 4 (Geelong)
Fixed Term - Up to 12 Months
The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Solicitor located at our Geelong office in Brougham Street Geelong.
The Junior Solicitor role is designed to attract solicitors who have exposure to the criminal jurisdiction or are interested in establishing and consolidating a strong criminal practice skill base through the preparation and conduct of criminal litigation, particularly at the Magistrates' and County Court level.

**About the Role**:

- Prepare and/or instruct in straight forward summary prosecutions, committals, plea hearings, trials, appeals and other hearings in the Magistrates' and County Court
- Undertake research, investigation and analysis of legal issues and provide written and verbal advice and recommendations as required
- Preparing accurate and concise memoranda on legal issues arising out of prosecution files, including providing legal advice within the OPP and to external stakeholders within agreed time limits
- Be passionate about helping us achieve our vision to make a positive difference to the community through the justice system;
- Have Knowledge of Criminal Law and Procedure and the Law of Evidence as well as other relevant legislation;
- Possess high level interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with relevant stakeholders such as OPP staff, Crown Prosecutors, complainants, witnesses, police, counsel and members of the public.

The position is based in Geelong and regional travel (under supervision) is a requirement of the position. A vehicle and overnight accommodation are provided as required.
